Sony to sell Reader in Japan, other new markets

Sony will bring its Reader to new countries later this year, including its home of Japan, the company announced on Thursday. While specific dates were not revealed, the devices will also arrive in China and Australia, along with Italy and Spain. Whether this expansion includes the 3G-connected Reader Daily Edition is not known.

In each country, Sony plans to work closely with local retailers, publishers and distributors to make the content relevant. Sony is expecting strong demand for e-book readers and e-books in 2010 in Asian markets. Sony's Reader is currently sold in the US, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland.
