AT&T to finally offer iPhone insurance

ATT gives in to demands for iPhone protection

AT&T is bracing itself for the new iPhone with a long-anticipated insurance plan for the iPhone. A leak Friday said the plan, MobileProtect, would cost $14 per month but would cover the cost of an iPhone if accidentally broken. Unusually, customers would subscribe through the App Store rather than at retail or on the phone, although it's not known if the app itself would cost any money.

The plan found by BGR would technically be covered by third-party firm Asurion and would hand over all the risk to that company rather than AT&T. Customers have previously had to risk paying the full price for an iPhone, which could be as high as $699 for a 32GB iPhone 3GS.

MobileProtect would be conveniently timed as it would launch on June 6th, just a day before Apple introduces the new iPhone at WWDC. Insurance has been a sticking point for some current or potential iPhone buyers, as virtually every other phone sold at AT&T's stores has insurance as an option.

You can get this coverage already via Best Buy

Best Buy offers this on all iPhones as well-have since launch for $14 a month.

I've used it twice now to replace my phone. I tend to be kind of hard on them ;)

$99 to $199 deductible? Why bother?

You can get your iPhone replaced for $199 at Apple's Genius Bar without wasting $14 a month.
AT&T's deductible is to expensive to warrant paying $14 a month and still have to pay for what you can do at the Genius bar at any Apple store without paying the $14 a month.

    better plans on other devices

my experience with other carriers/devices is that they charge 1/2 this price and it includes full coverage with no deductible - lost, stolen, broken, whatever - contact them and they just replace it.

    Typical AT&T ripoff

Among other places, Squaretrade and Worth Avenue Group both have iPhone insurance that also cover accidental damage, charging much less and with only $50 deductibles.

    Life Insurance

There are so many insurance companies out there that offer a full
life cover of insurance. I was so pleased when my family members told me about http://www.guardianinsurance.com.au/Life-Insurance.aspx They quoted a fabulous price for me and the Insurance Agent I spoke with was very knowledgeable and friendly.
