ATT needs new display for iPhone designs
AT&T is reworking its displays to accommodate the new iPhone, a source said Tuesday. Engineers are reportedly visiting AT&T-owned stores to build a previously unseen "large" display. The BGR contact presumed it would be for an iPhone as no other phone would need the materials devoted to the presentation.
The US carrier has regularly had a dedicated section for the iPhone as Apple insists that the device get a separate display from the rest of the phone lineup. However, they have usually involved relatively little beyond demo units, such as a TV with a looping presentation. A new design or the presence of new features like a front video camera may affect the requirements as Apple may be eager to show two-way video chats in-store.
Other candidates could include the BlackBerry 9800 or an Android device, but AT&T has never devoted special placement to either.
Timing for the new retail setup wasn't given away and would be an indication of how soon Apple expects its devices to be in stores.
