PSP Go gets 3 free games in US, 10 in Europe
Sony today took one of its first clearer steps to recover sagging PSP Go sales by launching its first game bundles for the console. US buyers who buy the system before the end of March 2011 and register will get an online voucher to download three games, including newer titles like the port of Little Big Planet, from the PSN network. The system still costs $250 and carries 16GB of space inside.
Americans can also buy some recent games for $10 each as part of a new Favorites category that brings games such as Patapon 2 to a lower price.
Europeans are potentially getting a better deal as their own promo gives them 10 pre-chosen games after downloading a free, special PSP system theme. Sony intends a shorter deal for the continent and will stop the deal at the end of September this year.
Sony often has PSP promos during the summer to fuel sales in the lull before the holiday season, but the PSP Go's high price and already low sales give the electronics producer an incentive to be aggressive. The iPhone and iPod touch are estimated to be stealing PSP sales both through the more modern hardware and much cheaper games. Sony's Favorites pricing just now lines up with the highest game prices usually seen in Apple's App Store.
