AdMob hints at strong world iPad sales
AdMob today discovered that the iPad has already had a strong presence outside of the US. About 38 percent of iPads sold in May were used in other countries. The international launch triggered the spike in the last three days of the month, although Chinese use has always been relatively high even though it hasn't had an official launch.
Japan's very high demand led the sales outside of the country at five percent, but China and the UK were tied at four percent. Canada despite its proximity was just 3 percent of iPad traffic.
Along with the iPad statistics, AdMob is launching its own iPad SDK for advertisers. The format provides both ads for landscape ads with a side navigation bar as well as horizontal banners optimized to work no matter how the iPad is tilted.
The mobile ad provider has added that it's creating demo versions of HTML5 ads that would give advanced animation without having to resort to Flash.
AdMob's venture into iPad campaigns is superficially in conflict with Google, which embraces Flash and whose buyout of AdMob would give more incentive to support Android over any iPhone OS devices. The combined company nonetheless has stressed that it wants to support multiple platforms and has embraced HTML5 in the past.
