Dell confirms Streak will have high price
Dell at the D8 conference confirmed US launch details for the Streak. The 5-inch tablet will cost as much as an iPad and will cost $500 unlocked in the US shipped with a video output dock. Americans should get the slate by the end of July.
Whether it would be subsidized by AT&T wasn't said. UK buyers can get the device for free on a contract with a 25 pound or larger cellular plan.
The company's Ron Garriques dodged comparisons to Apple at the conference and said it wasn't either a smartphone or a tablet, although it has features of both. It's likened more to a communicator that, for Garriques, was enough to let him drop the use of a phone.
Dell's device has some advantages over a same-price iPad, including both front and back cameras as well as 3G, but gives away all but 2GB of internal space and uses a lower-resolution screen to accommodate its size. Using Android 1.6 also limits the kinds of apps and features the Streak has until it gets an OS upgrade in the late summer or early fall.

Android 1.6?
That's like the iPad coming out with iPhone OS 2.0 isn't it? And seriously, 2GB, my 4 year old shuffle has more space than that!
