Verizon won't have Apple devices in "immediate future"

Verizon rep says Apple not that close

Verizon spokesman John Johnson today downplayed the near-term prospects of Apple hardware on Verizon [video below]. He explained to Beet at the D8 conference that there were no plans in the "immediate future" to use Apple devices and instead switched attention to the Droid Incredible, which he said was not only a good phone but had a better experience on its network.

"No one ever asks that question [about the iPhone]," he said sarcastically.

Johnson reiterated that the situation would get better still when LTE-based 4G rolls out. The first hardware will still be modems and other adapters, but the official stressed that Verizon would be quick with 4G smartphones and should have its first 4G phones "very early" in 2011. The faster network would be the key to making online video much easier, and he saw two-way video chat becoming a staple feature over time.

The statements don't rule out a Verizon iPhone or iPad this year but makes it doubtful that any will show up at WWDC this coming Monday. Most estimates align with Johnson's statements and put the CDMA iPhone in November, while an EVDO iPad is rumored to still be in testing.

    I can't believe these morons...

don't watch what they say. They turned down the iPhone once and keep talking trash. They've "lost" tons of money by not having it (iPhone). If AT&T gets its total act together this summer, or so, Verizon may never get the iPhone. Do you notice that S. Jobs doesn't trash talk Verizon? These imbeciles could learn something from him, but imbeciles never learn anything, by definition.

    I can't believe it

Verizon really annoys me when they do that. If I had a choice, I'd certainly drop 'em like a hot rock, but Verizon, in all it's glory, does serve rural areas in the U.S. better than AT&T.

I had hoped they would wise up a bit.

    Classic!

Classic morons..."Droid Incredible, which he said was not only a good phone but had a better experience on its network" - once again, its not about the consumer, its about VRZN... when are these idiots going to get it???? Verizon has historically been the most restrictive carrier of the bunch, with expensive music downloads that no one in their right mind would have purchased, to forcing the handset makers to restrict the use of bluetooth to only headsets. They suck just like the others, if not worse.

    umm...

    ok, umm,

ok,, i understand that the iPhone DOES occasionally use the Verizon system... but, in order to get an actual reading of if it DOES work better on the network than the Droin (which is newer than the iPhone) that HAS to mean that someone in never never verizonland has to have been testing something out on their network specifically in order to get a 100% accurate reading about something like that. One can't make a judgement like that with a device that keeps trying to jump back to its home network and get a good reading about it.....

ATT getting its act together? Now that would be something incredible.

Just give them time. They'll get it to work. Sooner or Later.

This is Great for the Android Community!

I'm seeing a bit of Apple fan envy and hate here! This is great news for Android Fans! No pesky iPhone or Apple nonsense to muck up the current Android momentum, on the biggest and best 3G network in the nation!.. At least not yet!

This should give Google's Android based systems a solid base to operate from in the U.S., for a while longer that speculated in much of the Apple bloggosphere. And at the current pace of development, Android based devices should be in force, both ready and able, to fully exploit the VZW 4G LTE network when it arrives!

Don't get me wrong Verizon is not perfect, but of the domestic U.S. carriers, they suck the least when it comes to coverage. IMHO Have I ever dropped a call or had spotty 3G coverage on Verizon's network? Yes, absolutely. Does this happen often and on a regular basis? Only when I enter the RF dead zones in my city, where even both T.V. and Radio coverage is hit and miss, so otherwise no. (in the Mountain and pass areas primarily)

So Apple iPhone fans, go talk to Mr. Jobs and see what he is planning to do to give you some options other than at&t in the U.S.. Of Course there are plenty of fast, capable, powerful, on-restricted, Adobe Flash capable, beautiful, large, small, real keyboard wielding Android, RIM & Palm(HP) based options already available to you! ;) Just use your iPhone and surf on over to www.VZW.com ! (if you can!) ;) j/k.....sorta! Just ignore the Flash content...Mr. Jobs says you don't need it anyway!
