Two firmware updates for Archos 5 tablet released
Two different versions of a firmware update have been launched for the Archos 5 Internet tablet. Version 1.9.10 brings OpenGL without 3D acceleration, while version 2.0.15 has 3D-accelerated OpenGL. The former brings with it a number of fixes, regarding fixing incorrect playback of Motion JPEG files as well as newfound support for M4B audio files.
The speaker quality is also improved, while tethering support is also enhanced. There is a new Hebrew alphabet for the virtual keyboard and a GPS bug that caused the device to freeze has also been resolved. Performance when multitasking is also improved.
Other than accelerated 3D OpenGL support, the 2.0.15 update contains a status bar notification when an app requests a full screen. Full screen enabling can now be done by holding down the power button for a length of time, and the Archos media center works faster. It contains Thinkfree's v2.0 document app with full editing features. The notification tray background display can also be made transparent. This update is said to be less stable, however, and users who experience frequent crashes should opt for the other update instead. [via ArchosLounge]
