Adobe promises live Flash to HTML5 ads

Adobe and Greystripe revealed a surprise attempt to court the iPad and iPhone with a new mobile ad system. Greystripe's ads will be developed using Flash but will be converted on-the-fly to HTML5 to reach Apple's platforms. It will also supply the original ads to Android phones that have Flash 10.1 built-in.

The approach is timed just as Apple is about to launch iAd, its own platform built on HTML5, and creates a major alternative for developers that want animated, interactive iPad and iPhone ads but who are excluded from Apple's currently limited range of ad providers. Existing providers like Google's recent acquisition AdMob will have interactive HTML ads but haven't targeted HTML5 from the outset.

Despite its public image, Adobe hasn't been opposed to HTML5 and has promised to have strong developer tools for the platform.

    Gee....

This kind of ruins most of the arguments against flash, since everyone says its basic use is ads. Now we'll get ads regardless!

There, See, Was That So Hard?

Nice to see Adobe taking Steve's advice for a change, and INNOVATING their way out of a problem.

Let's hope some of that thinking starts to infest their other divisions.

    and so...

What is the difference here, could they not have done this stuff right from the start instead of crying wolf. We know that Adobe was not so concerned about the devs as much as the money they would loose from Flash not being there on the iPhone OS. Guess what, now they have the solution so, it falls back to one thing: find ways to block them HTML5 ads.

    Good and Bad

Good: I can navigate to sites that use Flash as menus...

Bad: I can't turn off the Flash(HTML5) adds...

Solution: Just put a button on the browser to turn on/off HTML5... :-|
