Nintendo not using NVIDIA Tegra for 3DS?

Earlier rumors of the next-generation portable gaming console from Nintendo, the 3DS, getting a graphics processor from NVIDIA may not be true after all, says a recent report. Two independent, unnamed and unrelated industry insiders maintain Nintendo has instead opted for an unnamed Japanese company to provide the 3D acceleration for the console, according to EuroGamer.

At the same time, the codename for the 3DS has been confirmed to be Nintendo CTR, as hinted at by an earlier FCC leak of the device's mainboard.

This latest rumor indicates that the 3DS will have a glasses-free widescreen stereoscopic 3D display and a more conventional 4:3 aspect ratio 2D display under it. Official details on the 3DS are expected to be unveiled at the E3 show on June 15.
