Sony VAIO J Touch brings multi-touch for 900

Sony on Tuesday morning rolled out the VAIO J all-in-one as an inexpensive option for a touchscreen desktop. Its 21.5-inch, 1080p display supports multi-touch and gets both a touch navigation bar at the top as well as a dedicated VAIO interface for playing music, including automatic playlists much like SensMe on Walkman players. The webcam app also gets touch as it has a simultaneous message board function for handwritten notes.

Costs are kept down mostly by using modest though modern components. A base system starts at $900, although that configuration isn't detailed. A next step up at $1,100 has a 2.26GHz mobile Core i3, 4GB of RAM, Intel's integrated video and a Blu-ray combo drive. More advanced versions have Core i5 and dual-core i7 processors, dedicated GeForce 310M video and as much as 8GB of RAM.

Systems are up for pre-order today and will ship from the online store later in the month. Retail shops get the VAIO J in July.
