TRENDnet prices first 450Mbps Gigabit router

TRENDnet has launched its TEW-691GR Wireless N Gigabit router on Tuesday. The product is said to be the first in the industry with a 450Mbps theoretical throughput. Each of the three antennas has three spatial streams and they operate over the 2.4GHz spectrum.

Connections besides Wi-Fi include one gigabit WAN port and four matching LAN ports. There is a WPS feature for easy setup and connecting to compatible devices.

The new router is now shipping for $226.

    Huhhh???

What does this mean for people without an engineering degree? Is it faster than the Apple AirPort stuff? Is it faster than my cable modem can serve up? A bit of perspective would be nice rather than regurgitating specs from the seller. Sheesh!

Pardon my ignorance, but how does a 450Mbps speed qualify it as as a gigibit router? If my math is correct, a gigibit is 1000Mb.

    Gigabit Ethernet

Not all routers have Gig-E yet. In fact, the majority still don't. Those that do are often referred to as Gigabit routers.

    nice router!

This is one good option for a wireless router you can use for wireless internet. While there are a lot of other choices available in the market today, let me interest you with one powerful router. Check out Netgear's Wireless Router for Video and Gaming. With this wireless router, you can connect computers, gaming consoles, notebooks, or wireless printers, and also your networked home theater devices. You can also use this to stream video and music from a USB drive to media players and DLNA TV's, even without using a computer. Not that's one powerful wireless router for you.
