Nexus one gets 720p recording thanks to hack

A member of the XDA developers forum has created a hack that enables 720p video recording using the 5-megapixel camera on the Google Nexus One. A sample video reportedly taken with the modified handset is embedded below. The hack requires Cyanogen Mod CM5.0.8test3 to be installed on the host phone.

A version for Nexus Ones running Android 2.2 will soon be made available, and another version is due that will increase the frame rate and improve audio quality. The Nexus One has the same underlying processor and graphics as the Evo 4G and should be technically capable of handling 720p, but it was unusually limited by Google to standard definition.
