Panasonic intros ultra-thin Toughbook F9 notebook
Panasonic on Wednesday rolled out its latest Toughbook rugged notebook, the 14-inch F9. It's the lightest in its class, at 3.6lbs, yet has been tested to withstand drops from 30 inches while running onto its base, or onto all surfaces and angles from 12 inches. The PC has a keyboard that can shake off up to 7 ounces of liquid without any ill effects, while its lid and base can withstand more than 220lbs of compression.
Its 14.1-inch display has a resolution of 1440x900, and the notebook is said to last up to seven hours on a single charge. The PC builder puts it at the top end of its Toughbook performance with a 2.4GHz Intel Core i5 driving the portable, and the small 2GB of onboard RAM can be expanded to 6GB. There is a 320GB hard drive preloaded with Windows 7 onboard, along with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1. Buyers get the option of a Qualcomm Gobi2000 mobile broadband chip or WiMAX. A dual-layer DVD drive is standard fare.
The Toughbook F9 ships on July 1st for $2,899.
