LG promises 20 Android phones before year's end
As part of an effort to make it more competitive with rivals at home and abroad, LG will introduce 20 new Android-powered handsets before the end of 2010, according to a Wednesday report. Analysts and industry watchers talking to Korea Times said LG is lagging behind rivals in sales and otherwise underperforming compared to Korean benchmark index, KOSPI. The biggest change LG needs to make is in its smartphone business, as it makes up 45 percent of the company's annual sales.
LG's chief financial officer admits LG needs more time to turn around its smartphone department, saying it was not prepared. LG officials believe the company will see a strong second quarter for its home appliances and TV arms, but phone sales will see another "disappointing quarter."
Industry watchers believe smartphones are key for the growth of LG, as the ecosystems they can help create, including app stores, can mean significant future growth.
The new smartphones are due to arrive in the US with Verizon, which already carries the LG Ally, as well various unnamed carriers in the Middle East.

I am not sure LG will release 20 new 'phones' but I do know they are releasing 'several' new phones as well as Android 'devices'.
Last month we executed a pre-load agreement whereby LG would load ShopSavvy on their Android phones. We had no idea LG was planning such a major assault on the Android market. The news has our team pretty excited over here.
LG is the world's third largest phone maker - soon to be the world's biggest Android maker. WTG guys!
