Sources hear slim Xbox close, but not certain

Microsoft's often rumored slim Xbox 360 may be close enough to launch at E3, sources said Thursday. It would have the smaller chips expected to reduce the heat and cost of the console as well as extra steps to keep the price down. Its design might be timed to coincide with the launch of Project Natal as it could help spark interest in a combination of the two.

The same contacts telling this to Fudzilla, however, also give doubt that it might be ready to show at the gaming expo. Test examples have been made but purportedly don't show enough signs that the new Xbox would be ready for an appearance next week. The information doesn't discount the possibility.

Most talk of a redesign has centered on the long-rumored Valhalla design, which could put the processor and graphics on a single chip that uses much less power and doesn't need as much cooling as a result.
