Apple to open first DC, Minneapolis retail stores

Georgetown outlet long in development

Apple is set to launch two more US retail stores this weekend. The most important of these may be the Georgetown location, the company's first in the Washington, DC area. The outlet has had a troubled history, due to Apple plans not matching the look of surrounding historical buildings. It will finally open its doors at 5PM on Friday, June 18th. Regular hours will run from 10AM to 9PM most days, and 11AM to 7PM on Sunday. The shop is at 1229 Wisconsin Avenue NW.

The Uptown Apple Store, a first for Minneapolis, is scheduled to debut at 10AM on Saturday. The outlet is at 3018 Hennepin Avenue, and will share the same hours of operation as Georgetown, except that it will close an hour earlier on Sunday. The first workshops at both stores are penned in for Sunday.

    First for Minneapolis, yes...

...but there are already four other stores in the metro area.

    not the first...

actually the Georgetown store is not the first in the DC area. we have 4 apple stores in the dc area. the Georgetown store will be the first in DC proper. the closest one to that is in Arlington Virginia and it's only 3 miles away.

    Re: not the first

Yeah, but then you have to go to Virginia (and who the h*** wants to step foot in that state if you can avoid it)? And at 3 miles, it'll probably just take you 30 minutes to get there.

Of course, now you get your choice of dealing with the self-important Arlington people or dealing with the self-important Georgetown people.

    Philadelphia store?!?

The downtown Philadelphia store location on Walnut Street was announced a long time ago, and there is scaffolding up, but I haven't noticed any construction activity......was/is there an expected opening date for this store?!?

Just checked this our on Saturday. It is being put in the place of the old Uptown Bar. I'd rather have the Uptown Bar back. We don't need an Apple Store in uptown. We have the original Apple store. ;) It's got a cool history. It's even featured in the documentary "Welcome to Macintosh". If you haven't seen it. It's worth a watch. It's on Netflix - watch it now.
