Google Earth gets iPad UI, road layer

Google tonight quietly released Google Earth for iPad. The 3.0 update is the first version of Earth built for a tablet and has an optimized interface for the iPad's larger screen. All the imagery is now full resolution on Apple's newer device, and elements like in-map photos now appear as popovers that don't disrupt the main view.

Both iPad and iPhone 3GS owners now have access to a road layer that gives street layouts to the normally very terrain-focused app. Location service will still depend on either having Wi-Fi triangulation, 3G or (for iPhones) true GPS. The download is a free, universal app that works for all iOS platforms.

    hmmm

I wonder if it will constantly send information to Google about you, without your knowledge, as the desktop version does. There's software in the program that monitors you and sends it back to Google - you can't turn it off.
