LG Display, iRiver build e-book readers

LG Display and iRiver have entered into a $5 million partnership that will see the former provide e-paper panels for products designed and built by iRiver. LG Display will provide a majority 51 percent of the financing. The joint venture is named L&I Electronic Technology.

The first product made at iRiver's Chinese plant will be branded by iRiver, though it's unknown what its specs will include. It's believed to have a monochrome display but its release date remains unknown. The two companies aim to have the top-selling flexible color e-paper display by 2012.

iRiver is a relative newcomer to e-readers and just this year showed the Story, a Kindle-like entry into the field. [via SlashGear]
