Cellular South to get HTC Desire smartphone

Wireless provider Cellular South on Wednesday confirmed itself as the first to carry the flagship HTC Desire smartphone in the US. The second Android phone at the carrier after the Hero, it will kick off the introduction of other, unnamed Android-based smartphones from the carrier in 2010.

The Desire has a 1 GHz Snapdragon CPU and Android 2.1 with HTC's Sense UI. It will have built-in Google mobile services up to and including Google Maps Navigation. Cellular South's use will require that the phone switch to CDMA calling and EVDO for 3G.

Pricing details or a release date for the Desire haven't been released, but HTC itself said the phone would arrive in August for multiple US carriers.
