Faster 3G available to 45 million more people

T-Mobile today said that the ongoing expansion of its HSPA+ network will cover 25 major urban areas by the end of June, providing the 21Mbps access to significantly more people. The latest cities to get the expansion include Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New Orleans, and North Carolina's research triangle area (Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem). This more than doubles the number of people covered by T-Mobile's HSPA+ network, from 30 million to 75 million.

Network upgrades in Charleston, Oklahoma City, Orlando, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Tampa and Tulsa will also be complete by the end of June. T-Mobile's HSPA+ network already included all of Connecticut as well as Albany, Anderson (South Carolina), Bentonville (Arkansas), Buffalo, Fayetteville, Las Vegas, Memphis, New York, Philadelphia, Providence, Rochester, Syracuse, and the Washington, DC suburbs.

The company plans to continue to expand the HSPA+ network to 100 cities in the US by the end of the year, making the service available to 185 million people.

Its network remains one of the fastest in the US and should outpace both Sprint's WiMAX-based 4G, which peaks at 10Mbps, as well as AT&T's upcoming implementation of HSPA+, which will top out at 14.4Mbps.

    Minor Error

North Carolina's research triangle is not Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem. The Research Triangle consists of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill.
