iTunes 9.2 also brings faster backups

Apple finished the afternoon by posting iTunes 9.2 (102MB). The update gives expected support for iPhone 4 and also enables syncing books and PDFs to iPhones and iPod touch players with the yet-to-come iBooks 1.1 app. Backups should also be faster with any iPhone or iPod touch using iOS 4, which when active lets owners sort folders in addition to apps.

Album art should appear faster while browsing the library regardless of platform. Minor security fixes are onboard, including an update to the same version of WebKit included in Safari 5 and a pair of Windows-specific fixes to prevent maliciously-shaped image files from compromising the system.

The download is available today and needs Mac OS X 10.4.11, 10.5, 10.6 or later for Apple hardware; 32- and 64-bit versions are available for Windows.

    Oh joy!

Now another non-system program that, when installed, will cause changes to a slew of other unrelated software.

Hey, Apple, how about learning that OS updates are for updating the operating system, and application updates are for updating apps. Updating an application should NEVER touch OS components.
