Sony VAIO Y and Z add Share My Connection

Sony today gave owners of the VAIO Y and VAIO Z an after-sale treat by adding Share My Connection. Either notebook can now, like a MiFi, share its 3G connection with other computers over Wi-Fi. As many as five devices can get online at the same time.

The systems themselves haven't received significant updates, but the VAIO Y will come in the mix of brighter colors that have reached Sony's notebooks lately, such as fuchsia pink, pear green, purple violet and teal blue; black is available for more conservative users.

Prices for the 3G-equipped notebooks should start at $770 for the CULV-based VAIO Y and $1,950 for the Core iX-based VAIO Z. Share My Connection won't be free and will need both a 3G subscription through Verizon in the US as well as an unspecified extra subscription to share the connection; unlike with the Mac, Wi-Fi sharing isn't free.
