Toshiba intros mini NB250, NB305 with Atom N455
Toshiba this week held the European launch of the 10.1-inch NB250 netbook along with an updated NB305. The former has a six-cell battery that is said to provide up to 8.5 hours of battery life and weighs just under 2.9lbs. Both have Intel's new 1.66GHz Atom N455 chip at their roots.
The mini NB250 has 1GB of RAM and contains Windows 7 Starter on its hard drives, which top out at 250GB.
The mini NB305 adds a 3D impact sensor to protect data on its hard drive, and adds the option Windows XP Home. Other specs are largely the same, but one of the three USB ports has Sleep-and-Charge, letting users charge devices even when the netbook is off. It also has Bluetooth 2.1 and is mobile broadband-ready. Stereo speakers are another feature not found on the NB250. The NB305 is also more efficient, capable of getting up to 11 hours out of its six-cell battery. It will be available in brown or white.
The mini NB250 ships this summer in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. While North American release dates aren't known, the mini NB250 is said to cost $300, with the updated mini NB305 dropping to $380.
