Moto Droid 2 likely to ship alongside Droid X
The repeatedly leaked Droid 2 has been shown again by none other than Verizon itself in a hands-on at a booth in NASA's JPL. Staff from the network said that, although the phone on show had Android 2.1, it would either have 2.2 by the time it ships or would get an upgrade shortly after. The 1GHz processor and five-megapixel camera were also confirmed to Gizmodo's eyewitness.
About 8GB of flash storage is built-in, but another 8GB microSDHC card was inside.
The visitor to the booth also gave some subjective feedback on the design, which he said was virtually the same size as the original Droid but had many of the harsh angles rounded off. With the large directional pad gone, the wider keyboard is considerably easier to type on and now has a voice command button to take advantage of newer Android search features.
Significantly, Verizon supported notions that the Droid 2 would ship virtually side-by-side with the Droid X and that it should ship in the "next few weeks." Previous rumors had at least the Droid X shipping on July 19.
