iPhone 4 orders start shipping, others get canceled

iPhone 4 order errors persist despite shipments

Numerous readers today said that their iPhone 4 orders have started shipping. The news follows a day after the phones were readied for shipment and will theoretically have the phones arrive by June 23. Apple is more likely to hold any early shipments for a day to coordinate is launch.

However, some readers have also said that Apple and AT&T are cancelling orders. AT&T hasn't provided clues as to the cause of the problem, but at least one message from Apple has explained that the company was "unable to complete the authorization process" and asked customers to visit either an Apple or AT&T retail store to finish the order. Neither company has commented on the problems.

The behavior may reflect earlier system failures where AT&T's system incorrectly attributed more than one order to a single person or otherwise resulted in cancellations. It's unknown if some of these customers still have active orders or if the problems are eliminating orders outright.

    24th not the 23rd

so -1 for your fact checkers.

Also there are a number of reasons why the orders are being cancelled.

Credit cards declining. ATT credit check failure.

also several folks have noted that they were placing orders on both systems trying to make sure one went through. So they hit Apple and when ATT processes, it thinks they have already upgraded and can't again until June 2012 and cancels it. Or there's not enough money in the back cause of double holds for the pre-auth one is cancelled etc. or vice versa.

if you read the article again, you will see it states that Apple will hold the phones for one day in order to coordinate the launch. 23 +1 = 24.

    Re: 24th

Which is why Apple will likely put a hold on the packages. Not that such a thing will keep all of them from being delivered. And then some idiots will post how they scheduled their vacation around the 24th to get their package and UPS showed up a day early.

Which will only raise the question: Which is sadder, that someone might not get their iPhone on opening day, or that they actually took a day off from work so that they could be home to get their iPhone on opening day? (Nothing like wasting a good $700 of vacation time to sit around to get a piece of electronics).
