App developers declining offers from Microsoft, Google

Attitude shows strength of Apple's iOS

Following reports suggesting Microsoft has been offering incentives to bring developers onto the Windows Phone platform, Chillingo has confirmed the practice and offered reasons for refusing. The developer, which has produced many top sellers on the App Store, has reportedly declined offers from both Microsoft and Google.

Chillingo's Joe Wee claims his company ignores the frequent requests because Apple's iOS is the only "commercially viable" mobile platform in the current market. The developer has produced several top sellers, including Angry Birds with over 4 million downloads.

As Apple's App Store continues to gain momentum, Microsoft's struggle in the mobile market is viewed as an uphill battle. Windows Phone 7 will require apps to be rewritten, even many titles originally produced for Windows Mobile.

But the iOS Platform is *STIFLING* to Developers!

It's incredibly difficult to do any development when you're burdened by the weight of all the cash which is being dumped in the laps of the developers of quality iOS apps.

Google and MS offer a much, much more *open* environment.

    Google?

Why did they add Google to the title and story? Google's not paying people to go to Android (just did a search to make sure, and nothing came up).

I think this article is doing some wishful thinking. All of the devs that are in Android are there by their own will. So no, the App Store is NOT the only "commercially viable" store in the market. Android keeps geting bigger and bigger (no surprise. It is one EVERY network).

    MS' History of s******* Partners

Why would anyone willingly develop mobile apps for Microsoft, even after being offered a bribe to do so?

Microsoft has a long history of s******* their mobile partners.
Remember "Plays for Sure" and a handful of other "initiatives" MS tried, failed and abandoned?

This doesn't even take into account the MS crapshoot strategy of multiple, incompatible mobile OSes.

Oh yeah, developing for any MS mobile OS makes perfect sense for a small developer.

Developing for Android means working for the crowd that thinks everything should be free, quality be damned. That makes a lot of sense, too.

    Wow...

One developer isn't taking incentives, and it's "Well, I guess developers don't hate iOS!"
