Iomega teams up with Skin Industries on HDDs

Iomega on Monday released new portable drives with external designs from Skin Industries. The three available Skin Drives all have a 500GB capacity and are USB 2.0-powered. The drives carry Iomega's Drop Guard technology that can protect the drive and its data from damage from drops of up to 51 inches onto a relatively hard surface like an industrial carpet.

The range is made up of the Radical with a retro Skin-branded printed logo design on a black top with a vibrant yellow base, the Red Hot with a Skin Swipe logo printing on a red top with a black base, and the gothic-themed Knock Out with a silver top with a black base.

The drives come preloaded with Iomega's Protection Suite that includes backup and anti-virus software as well as 2GB of online storage. The Iomega Skin drives are now available in the US at $120.

    "Click of Death" standard feature?

I'm just wondering if this comes with their patented "Click of Death" feature. Or do their products make more of a grinding noise these days?

I wonder what their slogan is going to be.....
"Skin - hard drives for douche bags"
    "Skin - perfect for posers"
"Show some Skin - strippers need data storage too"

    ooooh.. I just got it!!!

    "Hard drives for soft minds!"

Nothing can cover the rusting steel cover below

Plastic case, not 'full steel' as claimed.
No aluminum parts whatsoever, not 'full aluminum' as claimed on some packages.
Heat trapped inside alone may kill the drive prematurely.

    Hard drives for straight heads

Style statements on hard drives are purely individual choices. Some people preferences may be some one else's dislikes. Those who dont need a funky design as Radical is under no force to choose it. The same kind of devices are also there in silver and red. I bought all three last month and I for sure have known these to be well-functioning, sleek, portable storage solutions..........and are not plastic boxes as some of the fellow commenters have ragged it to be. Emphasis should be on whether it works well or not. Pretty well does it.
