Apple says iPad sales rate accelerating

Apple on Tuesday revealed that it had sold three million iPads as of the start of the week. The figure comes just 80 days after the US-only launch of the tablet and shows the sales rate accelerating, as it had already passed two million in two months. It reiterated that the international expansion was still on track as nine more countries are due to get the iPad next month.

The results nearly guarantee that the iPad will pass some analyst expectations, as Apple will have shipped over three million iPads by the time its fiscal quarter finishes at the end of this month. Predictions for the tablet category's results this year have ranged from as little as 3.5 million for the entire market to 10 million units just for Apple. iPad sales are now certain to match the lower estimate just in the spring quarter alone and could beat the high end given the historical upswing in sales towards the holidays.

    Every 2.3 Seconds...

they sell an iPad. So in the time I type and post this, there were about 26 iPads sold. Not bad.

    I would, but

I actually bought one, but returned it after 14 days (Best Buy has no restocking fee) due to its limitations. I think in the next 6 months this device will really grow in capabilities, but right now it just cannot replace enough of my laptop's (NOTICE I said enough) features to allow for it to act as a replacement. It is SO close, though....

    oversized iPod Touch

remember all those comments, just a large iPod Touch.

The comments were spot-on, except the people saying it, didn't really understand that 3 million people wanted an oversized iPod Touch so bad that they purchased it in the first 80 days.

I too bought an iPad, and I enjoy it. But I would like the thinner/lighter/ and 7 inch version, if Apple would be so kind as to release some new models.

Feel free to toss in a Retina display, I'm not going to turn down 1920 x 1280 rez on that 7 inches...by no means will I turn up my nose at that....but....lighter/thinner/just a tad smaller please - that would be oh so great, and make it a better book reader....

Exactly perfect except for some features

My wife bought one, and she is NOT a technical person...

She set up email, internet, downloaded books, found the NY times crossword puzzle app..

    Without ever bothering me.

I would have gotten one of these for my dad instead of a mac mini if they were around.

I will most likely get one IN ADDITION to my laptop becuase it is easier to work with in a meeting (omni graffle with a group of people...).
