Sprint ships 3G/4G USB modem for business users

Sprint on Tuesday began offering the 3G/4G USB 250U mobile broadband modem from Sierra Wireless. The hybrid modem is the first of its kind for Sprint to support Mac OS X and has a 180-degree rotating hinge for an obstruction-free fit even on notebooks like the MacBook Air. The modem also has an integrated GPS feature that brings navigation and mapping info when connected to Sprint's 3G network. Clear introduced the same modem last week under a different name.

The 3G/4G USB 250U modem can now be had by business customers with a full-blown launch due in mid-July. It's available for free after a $50 mail-in rebate, $50 in instant savings and on a new two-year plan. The required plan costs $60 per month and includes unlimited data on Sprint's 4G network and 5GB of data on the Sprint 3G network. Sprint currently has a 4G network in 33 markets across the US.

    incorrect claim

while it may be "the first of its kind" -- only because its the first 4g modem with an antenna jack -- the u301 was the first 3g/4g modem from sprint that offered mac support.
