Apple claims factory problems with white iPhone 4

Apple today said that white versions of the iPhone 4 won't ship until the second half of July. The company now claims that the white body was "more challenging to manufacture than expected" and has had to stall shipments. The setback hasn't affected stock of the black model, Apple said.

The smartphone's alternate color was excluded from the recent pre-order campaign from the start, an early sign of production problems.

What prompted the delay isn't known, but both use the same Gorilla Glass for the front and back, which requires a new strengthening process. White models also need many more parts than for earlier iPhones as they include separate front and back plates.
