Samsung has US launch for R440 and R540 notebooks, more

Samsung dates, prices new US notebooks, netbooks


Samsung detailed the upcoming US launch of a number of notebooks and netbooks on Wednesday, including the R540 and R440 media-oriented portable PCs. There is also the 15.6-inch R530 and new N220 and N230 netbooks, while the existing N150 and NB30 will be available in new colors and with new functions.

The 14-inch R440 and 15.6-inch R540 are powered respectively by a 2.13GHz Intel Core i3 CPU and a 2.4GHz Core i5. The R440's largest available drive is a 320GB unit, with the R540 getting a 500GB unit. Either has 4GB of RAM. The R440 makes do with integrated Intel graphics and DVD, while the R540 has ATI's 512MB Mobility Radeon HD545v and a Blu-ray drive. The R440 and R540 ship in July, priced at $729 and $999, respectively.

The Samsung R530 has been upgraded with a 2.13GHz Core i3 CPU, and otherwise has 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive preloaded with Windows 7 Home Premium. NVIDIA's 512MB GeForce 310M handles graphics. It ships in July for $799.

The N220 and N230 netbooks focus on high mobility. The N230 is ultra-thin and light, at 2.2lbs. It has a battery life of up to seven hours. The N220 beats that figure with a 10-hour claim, and has a new polished green exterior with chrome accents. It weighs 2.9lbs.

A new model of the N150 netbook, the N150-11BL, gets a matte black finish with red accents and a non-glare screen. It comes rated at up to 10 hours of runtime. The NB30-11B is now in blue, and offers as much as 9.5 hours of battery life.

All get a 10.1-inch, 1024x600 screen, a 1.66GHz Atom N450, 1GB of RAM and up to a 250GB hard drive with Windows 7 Starter.

The N150-11BL, NB30-11B and the new N220 ship in June for $349, $359 and $369 respectively, while the N230 arrives in July for $399.
