Acer to badge future ultra-thins as Gateways

Once Acer sells off its current 13- to 15-inch ultra-thin notebook inventory, it will sell new ones under its mainstream Gateway brand, according to a new rumor. The only exception will be the 11.6-inch Aspire Timeline and TimelineX series, both of which will remain under the Acer brand, said sources speaking to Digitimes. The first such model will be a 13.3-inch ultra-thin notebook, with a 14-inch expected to follow later.

The same sources also said Acer will soon launch ultra-thin notebooks running on Intel's recent Core i7 660UM, i5 430UM, i5 540UM and i3 330UM ultra-low voltage processors. The company's ultra-thin notebooks will continue to get thinner and improve on battery life.

Possibly a reflection of its new strategy, Acer has reportedly moved 11.6-inch ultra-thin model production from Quanta Computer and 13.3-inch builds from Inventec to Wistron.
