Plastic Logic QUE delayed indefinitely

Plastic Logic says it can't predict launch

Plastic Logic has quietly delayed the QUE proReader again. Following an earlier second delay, it now won't say when the touchscreen e-reader is supposed to ship. All existing pre-orders have also been canceled.

Precise reasoning wasn't given to early customers, other than that the company thought the extra time would make for a better reader.

The reader has seen a number of setbacks for unknown technical reasons but has been considered one of the more ambitious designs until recently. As shown at the start of the year, it would have a letter-sized e-paper display with a resolution large enough to show whole article pages and complex office documents like spreadsheets. At $649 for a version with 4GB and Wi-Fi, however, it now costs not only much more than a device like the $149 Nook Wi-Fi but $150 more than a 16GB Apple iPad with color and apps.

    It's never coming out

The 4GB model is $150 more than the iPad. The iPad can do all this can and more. Yes, this is 11" vs. 9", but the iPad comes with a lot more memory.

If you want to compete against the iPad, you need to be ALOT cheaper ($399 or less vs. $499) and have better bells and whistles.

    Really? Again?

This is quite unfortunate news after a week of good news (for readers) from Amazon and BN. The QUE eReader was one of the few devices that many, including myself, were really looking forward to reviewing. It is aimed at a higher-end market and boasts features that reflect that: A very well designed interface, a highly responsive touchscreen keyboard, and a full sized e-ink screen...all ideal for business documents like excel spreadsheets, powerpoint presentations, word documents, magazines, and newspapers. Oddly enough, you can even process email through the QUE. And of course, books naturally become a joy to read on such a fully featured device.

I'm disappointed that it's been delayed yet again, but at least they will make sure it is an even better product when they do finally release it. Too much to say here, but I have continued my reaction with some more thoughts on my blog. Please check it out: http://ebookreader-ben.com/plastic-logic-que-proreader-delayed-second-time/
