RED shows lightweight, small 5K 3D camera rig
RED founder Jim Jannard has posted a photo of what he calls a working 3D rig that has two EPIC cameras capable of recording 3D images at 5K resolution. The Element Technica rig is said to weigh just over 45lbs, which is apparently very light for such a setup. The package can be made even lighter if the dual RED Brick batteries are replaced with lighter EPIC-X batteries.
The rig is a prototype, and may be called Pulsar when it is officially released by Element Technica. It's a modified Neutron rig with a larger mirror box to accommodate the two 3D cameras and their lenses and some other, undisclosed modifications.
Pricing and a ship date weren't given and will hinge on overcoming delays associated with the EPIC system.
