US Cellular confirms Android phone launch

After a brief tease earlier this week, US Cellular has detailed the Samsung Acclaim, its first Android phone. The QWERTY slider aims at the mainstream with a 480x320 screen and a three-megapixel camera. It keeps largely up to date with Android 2.1 and, unlike at some carriers, has the option of tethering for a relatively low $15 extra on top of a regular data plan.

The Acclaim will cost $100 on a contract but will have a perk, as early buyers will get a $20 gift card to buy apps through the Android Market. Stores should start receiving phones on July 9, and additional phones like the HTC Desire are expected in the future.
