Google Docs viewer now works with iOS, Android

Google on Monday said that Google Docs viewer has now gone mobile, catering to Android-powered devices as well as the iPhone and iPad. Users will be able to view PDF, PPT, DOC and DOCX files uploaded to their documents list without having to download them first. The functionality brings with it the ability to switch pages and pan or zoom on a page, with pinch-to-zoom supported on the Apple devices.

The service is now live, with users of the above mentioned devices encouraged to try it out. Viewing files uploaded in the formats only requires logging into a respective Google account.

Google has been tuning much of its web platform for iOS devices in recent weeks beyond just the document viewer, ranging from iPad-friendly Gmail to intelligently steering iPads to the desktop versions of sites where they would otherwise have used the iPhone version.
