Nintendo 3DS, Sony PSP-4000 coming this year?

Japanese game and movie retailer Geo Corp. in its latest financial report maintains that both the Nintendo 3DS and the Sony PSP-4000 handheld gaming consoles will be go on sale before year's end in Japan. While this is unconfirmed, it is somewhat controversial, as Nintendo has only said the 3DS would go on sale by March of next year, which is the end of the fiscal year. Sony has made no official announcements, or mention, of the PSP-4000.

The report also contradicts the next year release mentioned by Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime on a late night talk show this past Friday. Sources close to Nintendo in Japan claim Fils-Aime made a mistake, suggesting the 3D console will be out this calendar year.

The PSP isn't expected to have 3D support, unlike Nintendo's console. Launching the two at or near the same time, and to cash in on the holiday shoppers, may be essential to both companies. [via CrunchGear and Kotaku]
