Sprint, Clearwire bring 4G to three new markets
Sprint and Clearwire on Monday announced they have launched their 4G mobile broadband service in three new markets, including Richmond in Virginia as well as Salt Lake City in Utah and St. Louis in Missouri. Sprint now brings its 4G service to 36 larger urban centers in the US, which can be accessed using the HTC Evo 4G, modems, routers and some notebooks.
Clearwire, in which Sprint is the primary stakeholder and is building the WiMAX 4G network, also launched 4G service in the same three cities. In St. Louis, CLEAR covers more than 600 square miles, with Richmond receiving 350 square miles of coverage and Salt Lake City receiving 450 square miles. Sprint also plans on bringing 4G coverage to 11 more cities this year, including Boston, Denver, Miami and San Francisco.
Clearwire is currently offering a $15 per month deal for the first two months after a $50 service credit. The regular start price for the WiMAX service is $30 per month.
