Demand said to be stronger than expected

Sprint is reportedly facing shortages of HTC's EVO 4G handset in many markets, according to CEO Dan Hesse. Both Sprint and HTC suggest that the inventories have been depleted due to stronger-than-expected demand, rather than issues with component supplies.

"We're certainly doing everything we can to ensure we're supplying devices as quickly as possible," HTC spokesman Keith Nowak told Reuters "We're seeing greater demand for our products than we ever have in the past."

Early reports suggest some of the first-run EVOs showed problems with unresponsive screens, detached glass, Wi-Fi problems, and an SD card glitch. It is unclear if the quality issues caused a hiccup in HTC's production plans.
