HTC to start updating Desire, more with Andoid 2.2 in summer

HTC Desire, Legend and Wildfire all get 2.2 soon

HTC said today that it would update the Desire, Legend and Wildfire should all get Android 2.2 updates soon. A representative wouldn't give a timetable but said updates would start during the summer. Nexus Ones have already been getting updates as of Monday night.

Unlike with the 2.1 update, HTC phones won't get significant changes to the custom Sense UI and should instead get largely the underlying updates from Android 2.2. Faster performance, automatic updating and better Exchange support are certain, although tethering and Wi-Fi hotspot support aren't as likely given carrier limits.

New revisions have historically been slow from HTC as it often has to test its own software before it can greenlight changes. The Nexus One is receiving its update first as it uses a stock version of Android. [via Pocket-Lint]

    sure....

I whole heartedly doubt HTC will have a 2.2 update "this summer", unless October is summer to the company. I was on the receiving end of a belated 2.1 update for my Hero, and have no faith in the company i once thought had a shot with android to "out do" apple. The Hero has been a giant disappointment, even with the 2.1 update - freezing, unexpected restarts, keyboard not inputing text, and the list continues. Thank god i can now get an iPhone 4 from work, and dont have to hope i'll have a smartphone that can actually run applications without freezing. Bye bye HTC
