Verizon confirms Incredible switch, but no Droid X pre-order

VZ says Droid X a substitute, but in-store only

Verizon today at once confirmed and clarified its stance on switching Droid Incredible orders to the Droid X. Customers unwilling to wait for HTC's Android phone can buy Motorola's device when it goes on sale July 15. Any other device qualifies as well, Verizon said, but Droid X buyers through Verizon's own store will have to wait for launch day.

Best Buy has already said it will open advance sales of the Droid X and won't require a mail-in rebate like the official source.

The new emphasis on the Droid X reflects the supply issues that have plagued the Droid Incredible. Samsung's decision to claim much of its AMOLED display for itself has left HTC switching to LCDs and setting back orders up to a month from when they were placed. The Droid X uses LCD and should be relatively safe even with the presumed high demand.
