Sony VAIO CW and F need BIOS fix to avoid burns
Sony Japan warned today that about 535,000 notebooks could face a critical overheating problem. It discovered that 13 VAIO CW and F series notebook models have a flawed BIOS system that doesn't properly control heat, possibly leading to burns or even deforming the case. All of the systems were released after January this year and run on Core i3, i5 or i7 processors.
A currently Japanese-only serial number check can help identify affected systems.
Customers who find themselves affected by the bug can download a new BIOS to solve the issue, Sony said. Those that can't or would prefer not to download the update can send their systems in to have the update loaded on their behalf.
