Starbucks Wi-Fi to be free for Canadians as well

Starbucks Wi-Fi free through ATT and Bell July 1

Starbucks on the eve of its free Wi-Fi access said the plans would now cover Canadians. The July 1 rollout had originally only been described as covering Americans, but the coffee shop has now reached a deal with Bell Canada for similar access. In either country, the new service is a single-click sign-in and doesn't have the previous two-hour time limit.

The reversal of the once pay-only policy may be a competitive necessity for Starbucks, as many smaller and usually independent shops now offer Wi-Fi for free or at lower rates. These, and now Starbucks itself, have counted on customers buying more drinks and food in compensation for possible side effects, such as customers that spend most of their day at the store. Starbucks to offer free Wi-Fi in *Canada*

I'm pretty sure you're not going to have to flash your passport to verify your nationality.

    Honestly

I'm more for the 2 hour limit. Sometimes it's hard enough to get a seat and even harder to get a comfy couch.

So if these all day losers get unlimited free wi-fi those comfy couches will never be free and other seats will be even harder to get.

Starbucks should strategically place all the plugs in one part of the store with a long study table for people with laptops (a laptop only section) to sit at and leave the comfy seats for paying customers who won't take 5 hours.

    Old news

Starbucks has had free Wifi at there stores in Canada for quite some time. All you had to do was buy a Starbucks card, for as little as you chose, register it and away you go.
