Sony NEX-3 and NEX-5 now do 3D Sweep Panorama

Sony today fulfilled earlier promises and posted an update for the Alpha NEX-3 and NEX-5 compact, interchangeable lens cameras. New firmware adds a 3D Sweep Panorama mode that automatically creates a 3D landscape image by comparing the depth across a burst of images. Shots taken will show on any 3D TV and likely other displays that can recognize 3D standards.

Photographers get a few extra improvements, starting with improvements to the regular 2D Sweep Panorama mode. Either NEX camera should start faster in low light, and the cameras should lose less power when shut off.

The downloads apply to any camera with the original, 01 firmware. Newer production runs of the camera with version 02 will already have the new features and fixes out of the box.
