Report has Google Music, Android 3.0 due in fall

Google Music and Gingerbread may go side-by-side

Google Music should launch side-by-side with Android 3.0 before the end of the year, Android Project Manager Gaurav Jain said in a new interview. He expects the music store to ship alongside Gingerbread, the codename for Android's next major release, sometime in the fall. The project lead added in his talk with Israel's Calcalist that mobile would play a primary role in the store from the outset.

The service was originally shown off as a showcase for Android 2.2 and would theoretically still work with the current OS. Google's current software supports "intents" that could take requests from the web and push downloads directly to an Android phone, even if the request is made from a different computer. Remote streaming from the store may require more, however.

Word of the timing hasn't been separately confirmed by Google, but it would come just as the company may have to face a streaming iTunes option later this year. [via Know Your Cell]
