Droid X proven handling Flash reasonably well

Adobe has quietly shown off its newly finished Flash 10.1 for mobile running on the Motorola Droid X. Senior Technical Evangelist Ted Patrick showed the Android flagship running both web games and a Flash-based World Cup 2010 tracker all running reasonably smoothly. Phone owners can tap games once to have them fill the screen.

Much of the content works smoothly, although some stuttering is in evidence with the World Cup app even with the newer 1GHz processor. Adobe also didn't give clues as to how the plugin would affect battery life on the large-screened, 4.3-inch phone. Critics have noted that Flash beta tests have usually slowed down browsing and has significantly shortened battery life when used for games and videos.

The smartphone is due to ship to Verizon on July 15, but it will use Android 2.1 from the start and won't support Flash until it gets Android 2.2, possibly in late August.
