HTC shows no signs of ending Incredible shortage

HTC suffered another setback today as Verizon has pushed back the Droid Incredible to August. New orders for the phone now won't ship any earlier than August 4, or three weeks after its fellow Android competitor the Droid X reaches shelves. Verizon still has an open invitation to switch orders for those hoping to avoid waiting.

The delay worsens HTC's attempt to hold on to its claim as the strongest Android manufacturer. Samsung's decision to squeeze out others for the sake of its own Galaxy S phones is believed to be forcing HTC to switch from AMOLED to LCD for its phones just to keep supplying stock. The shortages have led to the Droid Incredible being in short supply virtually since launch and Verizon executives to say they could sell twice as many phones were it not for the problem.

HTC has had breathrough sales in its most recent quarter, but it may face trouble in the summer as the Incredible, Desire, Legend and many of its other Android phones may face tight supply. One of its closest competitors, Apple, has also faced shortages, but these have been owed primarily to demand and not supply constraints.
