Android-powered HTC phone with HSPA+ coming?
A T-Mobile spokesperson on Wednesday reportedly said HTC will have an Android-based phone supporting the carrier's HSPA+ network. While few details are known, the technology would give it a much faster peak speed of 21Mbps and could mean realistic download speeds of about 10Mbps. Upload speeds would reach into the multi-megabit range as well.
The Light Reading claims are somewhat vague, as the author isn't sure whether the T-Mobile mention represents the company's US or European operations. If true, however, this would be a critical victory as competitor Verizon has only managed 8.55Mbps in real-life tests of its next-generation, LTE-based 4G network. A second HSPA+ phone is also believed to be in the queue but has no added details.
HSPA+ phones are known to have been in the works for this year, but when and how has had few details. One candidate is the HTC Vision, which could reach T-Mobile USA and would become not just one of its best Android phones but a technology showcase.
