HTC Android 2.2 updates to be done this year

In an exclusive interview with Pocket-Lint, HTC's global PR and online community manager Eric Lin revealed why Android 2.2 has not yet been ported over to HTC's smartphones. Lin said the time required to port over all applications to Android 2.2 is long, and requires testing to ensure they work perfectly on each handset. But, he added that the changeover will not take the six to seven months like it did with the more involved Android 1.5 to 2.1 update.

Lin said the 2.1 to 2.2 jump involved many small tweaks rather than major changes, so it will be quicker.

As for Android 3.0 (Gingerbread), Lin said it may not be ready until 2011. While Lin didn't know what exactly Gingerbread involves, Google hasn't made announcements as to its release, so it could be during the winter of next year. Previously, it was believed Android 3.0 would be out this fall. Finally, Lin believes Android 2.2 updates will be complete by the holiday season.
